History of Ahmedabad Name

There is a fascinating legend related to the Ahmedabad metropolis. During the starting of the fifteenth century, the state of Gujarat was once controlled by the Muslim Muzaffarid dynasty. The Sultan Ahmed Shah was once standing on the banks of river Sabarmati and he noticed a tiny hare pursuing a powerful aggressive dog. He kept puzzling over it. He went to a religious leader and requested for explanation. This knowledgeable man stated that, it is the distinctiveness of this land that cultivates such rare traits in its humans. After hearing this, the Sultan was so impressed that he decided to make this land the capital of Gujarat and also decided to call this land Ahmedabad.

History of Ahmedabad City during Sultanate Rule

During the ending of the thirteenth century, the state of Gujarat was once captured by the Sultanate of Delhi. The grandson of Ahmed Shah whose name was Mahmud Begada build the outer city wall during the year 1487, in an effort to shield the Ahmedabad city from outside incursion. The last Sultan of Ahmedabad was Muzaffar II.
